This is a path of earth-based (natural) personal alchemy (transformation) for body-mind-spirit wellness. Our practice is based on core and eclectic shamanism. We are not native shamans so, through our practice, we are shamanic practitioners.
Michael Harner, an American anthropologist, wrote, "After having personally practiced shamanism, shamanic healing, and shamanic journeying for more than half a century, I can say that there is nothing I have encountered in reports of the spiritual experiences of saints, prophets, psychedelic drug experimenters, near death survivors, avatars and other mystics that is not commonly experienced when following classic journey methods using a drum."
Core Shamanism uses the universal, near-universal, and common features of indigenous shamanism. These include shamanic cosmology, and journeys to other worlds (the upper and lower worlds). Integrative shamanism, as we practice and teach it, includes altering our consciousness through classic shamanic non-drug techniques such as repetitive drumming (a form of sonic driving) to facilitate shamanic journeying. Through shamanic journeys we are able to discover our own hidden spiritual resources, transform our lives, and learn how to help others.
While Core Shamanism does not focus on ceremonies we feel that individuals may be called, through current life influence coded in their DNA or through past-life experiences, to a specific culture. So you are free and encouraged to develop your own eclectic form of Integrative Shamanism(TM) that uses practices from a culture that calls to your spirit.
Remember that shamanism is not a New Age practice . . . it is a practice that has been with humankind since the beginning of time and it has been with us because it works. It is a universal practice whose core elements are still found among indigenous peoples today because it works.
